WASHINGTON, D.C. - SIX AMERICAN CORVETTES escorted the good ship HLS Vanguard into Washington Naval Yard, the oldest naval yard in the nation, having been established just after the American Revolution in 1799, when the old United States was still in its infancy. The HLS Vanguard carried the Lord Protector of Britain, Coriolanus Snow to a state dinner at the White House.
PHILADELPHIA, PA - CRIME RATES continue to fall from pre-war levels as investment in the economy increases. Economists say that the local unemployment rate is down to 7%, from almost 16% immediately preceding the war, and 11% after the collapse of the Union. The national unemployment rate remains relatively unchanged, dropping from 10.6% to 10.3% as unemployment in Ohio and the former territory of West Virginia continues to rise.
CLEVELAND, OH - CRIME IS UP 40% as the economy continues to sink. State-wide, the economy has been in a state of recession since the 1929 crash. Though it appeared to be improving at times, it never actually managed to climb above -0.5% growth in the state. President Vanderbilt has promised to improve the economy of the state, and has stated he will be holding emergency meetings after the state visit from Britain has concluded.
Meanwhile, organized crime continues to flourish in Ohio. In Cincinnati, it is estimated that the local mafia controls around 56% of the local economy, and much of the city with it. Those with more intimate knowledge of the city say that it has 'essentially become a rogue city' and calling for the national guard to be sent in. Without a request from the mayor or governor, however, the President cannot order troops to enter the city.
The governor himself has issued vague warnings of secession, further splintering the former United States, and possibly setting off another deadly Civil War. The office of the President has not commented on the situation.
BOSTON, MA - THE YANKEES opened up this year's season with a victory in Boston. The new 12-team league is a consolidated form of the former National and American Leagues following the collapse of the former United States. The league resumed play this year after a six-year hiatus due to the war. Today's scores and current standings are below.

COLUMBUS, OH - THE GOVERNOR and President Vanderbilt met earlier this week in Columbus to discuss what each thought the state of Ohio needed to survive. Today, they made their announcement at a joint press conference outside of the Governor's Mansion to cheering crowds. The proposal was for more subsidies from Washington to get the state back on its feet, and a new job-creation plan that could bring the unemployment rate down from nearly 20%.
The Ohio National Guard was finally sent to Cleveland after President Vanderbilt signed an executive order giving himself command over the National Guard in Ohio. The governor publicly criticized the act. National Guard troops managed to put down the riots and order is now restored. Total deaths in the riots and ensuing crossfire between the soldiers and citizens were 107 citizens and 14 National Guard troops. Mr. Vanderbilt has announced a ceremony to be held on the mound in Cleveland Stadium to honor the dead.

Top economists attribute this steep decline to the President's new jobs bill, which guarantees employment for all who sign up. It seems to be working, for now.
